FIRE CONTROL

Fire Control in Star Trek

In Star Trek there is the concept of locking on phasers or other weapons, so an active Fire Control must be available for weapons to fire just as in the Full Thrust core rules. Without a working fire control you cannot target the weapons and all shots will miss.

Phasers and torpedoes don't need separate fire control systems to target them. Even though the photon torpedoes or plasma torpedoes are guided weapons and so need to be targeted. The first control systems are advanced enough to be able to  direct fire weapons there don't need to be two active fire control systems for both weapon systems to be used.

We see Sulu on the Enterprise and Chekov in the Wrath of Khan manning a single Fire Control station and firing both weapons from it.  It is unclear if the Romulan Plasma weapon is using a single Fire Control but they only have the one weapon in that scenario. There are of course plot inconsistencies in the Balance of Terror the phasers are fired from the phaser control room. But this changes to be from the bridge in subsequent episodes and the films.

Fire Control in FULL THRUST

Use the normal Fire Control rules from Fleet Book Volume 1.  There are no rolling for lock as this will slow down the game. If the Fire Control is active then the lock is assumed. There is a limitation that the Fire Control can only target a single target and there is no concept of dual targeting, the Fire Control has to switch targets.
